Cashier Woes

Well, I finally was using the cash register today.  Why I thought it would be like Giant is amusing to me. Everything is a touch screen, as opposed to a scanner, so I need to know where all the food items are, on what screen, how to let the kitchen know that it's a gluten-free bun, etc.  The actual worst part is counting the drawer.  At Giant, I just put in my code. No counting pennies, nickels and dimes, having all the bills face the same direction and  separating the different kind of credit card receipts.  Who knew that Giant was that far ahead of the game.  I truly have a new respect for automation.  Thank goodness for Makala, one of my co-workers, who kept bailing me out while also doing her job and half of another person's job. She reminds me of the Energizer Bunny, with a big smile on her face.

The one good thing about the Geyser Grill is that we can accept tips.  We can't have a tip jar out, or solicit in anyway, but we can accept them.  I tried taking a picture of my first tip, but it was a lousy shot.  This gal who gave it to me was super nice and friendly so when I asked, she thought it was funny.  She was pleased when I said I was putting it in my blog. Don't tell her it didn't work out.  Shhhh.

Other than that, an ordinary day.  I am getting to start my day reading a newspaper, thanks to Mel and drinking coffee, thanks to Brenda who makes a pot in our shared bathroom every morning. No view of the river, though.  Just the, neighboring residence/dormitory building.

I have the day off tomorrow (Thursday) so I hope to do something fun outdoors.  It still doesn't feel like Spring here.  More like an eternal March.  Every now and then it's in the 50's, but not often enough.  Maybe some pictures tomorrow.
