Fun filled weekend

I still have to walk over to Snow Lodge to get any wifi reception, but at least it's close, less than 100 yards, i'm guessing.

Friday was fun with Rose, I know I talked about it last blog.  Saturday was spent just lazying around until the evening and then we went to a bonfire near the creek.  It's about 1/2 mile from the residence and quite nice.  There is a specific area where fires are allowed, but a permit is required.  One of Brenda's friends is the person in charge-a nice lady, mid-twenties who organizes it.  About 25 folks including myself, Rose, Brenda and Christine.  Rose had problems with the smoke and left early.  As we were walking toward the area, the folks yelled to use the other path.  we found out that a bison was standing in the middle of the easier path.  There was another bison there also, but both of them just ignored us.  One moved on but the other one just lay down and went to sleep.  I guess it was sleeping.  I truely didn't check.  It was really nice sitting around the fire, cooking marshmellows and hot dogs.  it's the first fire I've been around this season.  I did have to chuckle at the fire builders.  Not too experiences or knowledgeable.  Nothing at all like the Share firese or the Wonderland fires.  Poor kids.  They'll learn.

Sunday started  Rose, Steve and I hiking to Morning Glory Pool.  I've been there, but Rose hadn't and it was a really nice day.  Along the way, we saw that we'd be in the window for Daisy Geyser erupting, so we sat and waited and were rewarded.  I have pictures, but not that will transfer to this blog yet.

Later that day, when Rose was at work, I borrowed her can and took Brenda, Christine and 2 new Asian kids that just started with Brenda a few days ago went to do a little sight seeing.  We were only gone about 3 hours, but did get to seem some neat stuff-Fire Hole Fall, Paint Pots and Grand Prismatic (I was told incorrectly that is was Grand Prysmatic in another blog) and a few other drive by places all within about 10 miles of our residence.  Brenda and Christine haven't gotten out of this area much and the kids not at all since they've only been here 3-4 days.

The kids are sisters in early 20 who live in Macau (I think) and the American nicknames are Sally and Crystal.  They both have neat gadgets for photos and took at least 1000.  I may be exagerating.  Since we didn't go to the overlook at Grand Prismatic, the ground route was rather disappointing, in my opinion.  When I said that, Sally was astonished, saying"This is disappointing?"  we'll go back another time when they have adjusted to the elevation and hike the 1/2 mile trail to the top.  They will understand what I meant.

Later today, there is a talent contest in the Rec Center.  Each of the 5 areas has one, and then the individual winners compete park wide.  There aren't any great prizes, but it gives some talented folks a chance to perform.

There is also an Employee Appreciation Dinner on Thursday where the managers act as hosts for the employees and i'm told we eat off regular plates.  Whoopie.  Funny the things one misses.

I booked by flight home and will arrive on August 20. By staying for my entire contract, I will be able to collect unemployment when I get home.  I was thinking about quitting a week early to go to Hickory Fest but the money got in the way.  There's always next year. In many ways, the time here flew by, and it other ways it didn't.  I guess it's always like that.  I have a list of things I want to do before I leave so hopefully I'll get around to them.  No new photos because they haven't transferred yet. More tomorrow.

  1. That sounds like a really good time. And it seems there are a lot of sleeping Buffalo, or bison. Must be an easy job being a bison. And you can always end up in a sandwich.
