Snow Lodge, still

I still have to go to Snow Lodge to use Wifi.  It is what it is.  We are told when we go to use the internet, we can't have anything that identifies us as a worker bee.  And to be careful about bitching about work or fellow workers because some guest overheard someone and complained to management.  Big woose.

I worked the late shift today and am here about 10 PM.  It was busy as  usual until about 4 PM and then got rather sporadic.  Gave me time to finish the stuff I'm suppose to do like stock the display case, clean some stuff and the like.  Then about 7 PM we had a rush that packed the place again for about 1 1/2 hours.  Since we're working with a skeleton crew then, it was rather hectic, but everyone stepped it  up and we did a great job. It was kind of funny with all of us complimenting each other.  We had some management change since our old manager, Chris, left suddenly.  The guy that replaced him, Andrew, was an assistant for about a month, and the 2 new assistant managers are folks who have worked there since it opened in April.  I really makes a difference to have people who actually know what is going on in the grill.  Miranda, one of my favorites there, is one of the new assistant managers and seems to be doing well.

The talent show was interesting.  There were only about 6 acts, and some of them didn't practice as much as they should have, but it was entertaining.  The 1st place winner was 2 guys from Ecuador who played a traditional stringed instrument similar to a  guitar, but not the same.  His buddy sang, but he didn't really add to the act.  Most of the performances were aimed at a much younger audience.  Imagine that.

There is an employee appreciation dinner tomorrow night.  Details to follow.  From what I hear, it's suppose to be really special.  We'll see.

At work the other day, some of the younger workers, millenials all, were asking about life before the internet.  It got to be really silly as I talked about going to the library to do research, reading newspapers, watching news on TV, and actually writing letters.  Some of them actually didn't know what a rotary phone was, much less party lines and even using an operator.  I felt like a storyteller.  It really was fun.

About 2 weeks ago, I lost my hat that I'm suppose to wear at work. I actually left it there and it disappeared.  Hmm. Everytime someone in charge mentioned it and said to wear a paper hat that looks much like a soda jerk had from the 50's, I'd say ok, but wouldn't remind anyone to get me one.  One manager said no big deal since I actually don't work around food.  It has gotten to be a joke about how long I could actually go without one.  I did try to get a new hat from the uniform office, but it wasn't in stock and had to be ordered.  Finally today Steven, the new assistant manager actually handed me the hat. I ended up wearing it all different ways, So all day long, some of the other folks were making fun of me, in the nicest sort of way.  I just added to my persona.  The hat is now in the uniform office so I will make a point to get there when it is open.

Still no photos.  But i keep taking them so eventually there will be some new ones.  more news tomorrow.

  1. Life almost seems normal for you all of a sudden. Glad you're having a pretty good time. I need a picture of you and the hat.
