Cowboy Cookout

Well that was fun, the cowboy cookout we went to yesterday, Sunday.  Rose, Brenda, Steve and myself headed out about 9 AM with plans to stop along the way, doing some sight-seeing.  The trip without stops would take about 2 hours. The road wound through some great landscapes, large valleys, a really cool pass thru the mountains, just beautiful.  I'll save descriptions for when I can post pictures.

The cookout itself was quite nice.  There were about 8 horse drawn wagons that traveled about 30 minutes to the cookout area. The horses were two giant horses, Belgian Draft, of course I kept calling them burping horses, named Shake and Bake. There was a driver and his assistant who got everyone involved and talking.   Once there, they had it set up for a nice dinner with steak to order, baked beans, potato salad, coleslaw, mexican corn, corn muffins and apple cobbler.  While we were eating, there was a guitar player who sang and generally entertained.  After seconds for who ever wanted, they was time to go look at the horsers, talk to the "wranglers" who escorted us.  Then there was a firecircle where one guy sang some songs, encouraging everyone to sing along, "Happy Trails"  then another person told a funny tale, we all headed back to the wagons and back to the the parking lot.

One of the funny things that happened had to do with wearing cowboy hats.  Rose thought that would be fun if we all wore cowboy hats.  Unfortunately, we couldn't find cheap ones in West Yellowstone, but we did manage to find $7 hats at Roosevelt where the cookout starts.  Then we found out that they didn't stay on, so Rose and Brenda cut up shoe laces from shoes that Rose had in her car to make fasteners.  I was driving at the time.  (We were headed to the petrified tree that dated back about 50 millions years.)  just listening to their discussion of how to do it was amusing.  Maybe you had to be there to appreciate it. Steve and I were in the front seat were just laughing our butts off listening to them.

Work is going fine.  Some other of the folks are leaving close to my final days.  We'll probably get the darn floor mats the week after I leave.  More later.

  1. I guess you're all Junior cowpunchers now. Sounds like a good day. Okay here's the question how is the steak?
