Homeward bound

Boy, am I looking forward to coming home.  It's just around the corner.  In many ways, this time has just flown by here.  In other ways, I feel like I have been here forever.  About the only thing I wanted to do that I didn't get to do was join the 100 mile club.  To join it, one has to hike 100 miles during the season.  It doesn't count just walking around but actual trails.  I just didn't have the will power to do it.  Oh well.

Speaking of hikes, my hiking boots went on a moderately strenuous 10 mile hike the other day.  I wasn't in them, but they did hike.  I lent them to Lora, my suite mate from Italy.  They were required so I lent her mine.  Actually, when I do hike, I just use sneakers.  The one hike when I should have used them, I didn't.  But then Rose and I didn't realize that it was a harder hike--the trail to Mallard Lake.  Obviously, I did survive it anyway.

Work is getting old.  I can tell it's almost time to quit the job.  Standard operating procedure for me and jobs as anyone who knows me well. I have been getting alot more closing hours (1 pm to 10-ish) with 1/2 hour for lunch.  I'm not built for those kind of hours anymore.  At least at Giant there were padded mats to stand on.  And it was rarely over 4 hour shifts, with definite breaks. But then again, I didn't come here for the job.  I came for the location.  Too bad I have to actually work.

After complaining about work, I do have to say some nice stuff about the rest of my life here.  I have gone to a few painting classes and have opportunities to take so many post card pictures.  I live in a place like no other place in the world.  I have made some really good friends who I hope to keep in touch with, but there is always some who fall by the side of the road.  I have met people from all over the country and many from other countries giving me a great perspective of others.  All in all, it is a great adventure.  I came here because I wanted to really immerse myself in Yellowstone and a very different lifestyle.  Now I'm thinking about where else I would like to see at this level and intensity.

Brenda has been hired for the winter season.  She's encouraging me to apply also but no way in hell.  It would be like living in a snow globe, actually. Pennsylvania winters are exciting enough.
